José Maria Campos do Santos

In the last twenty years Prof. Santos has been working with wave propagation methods with applications to structural health monitoring, mid- and high-frequency vibration analysis, vibroacoustic problems and uncertainty quantification.

During this time, Prof. Santos has been developing research in phononic crystals and metamaterial design methods. Recently he advised and concluded one PhD and two Master Thesis in these subjects. As a Co-PI, Professor Santos is responsible for the work package Metamaterial Design and Optimization.

The main goal is to investigate and develop research within the scope of acoustic and elastic metamaterial design and optimization with applications to noise & vibration control, structural health monitoring (SHM) and the uncertainty quantification.

Prof. Santos manages the researchers (IC, Master, PhD, Post-Doc and Collaborators) including students and collaborators in São Paulo, Brasília (UnB), São Luis (IFMA, UFMA), and France (Université du Maine, LAUM), with the objective to develop new analytical and numerical methods for the design and optimization of phononic crystal and metamaterials.

The research group includes:

  • Edilson D. Nobrega
  • Helio Cantanhede da Silva
  • Adriano Goto
  • Victor Gustavo R. C. Santos
