Leopoldo P. R. de Oliveira

As co-PI Prof. Leopoldo de Oliveira coordinates the Work Package in smart metamaterials, which focuses on developing the next generation of smart structures with dispersion properties. He will be responsible for gathering and promoting the interaction among researchers from ITA, UNESP, Unicamp and USP.

The scientific challenges in this WP require the development of modeling strategies that comprise the multiphysics aspects of smart materials and can cope with periodic systems. There is also a strong emphasis on testing, from unit cells to full systems, in scenarios that vary from noise and vibration control to aeroelastic applications.

Prof. de Oliveira has experience of more than ten years with research related to vibro-acoustics and active control of noise and vibration including numerical modeling, prototyping and experimental validation. In the past nine years as professor at USP, he has guided 13 graduate students and many undergraduates, coordinated two individual research projects and acted as a member of another three, including an FP7 European project.

He is currently working with foreign research groups (KU Leuven, Belgium and UNIUD, Italy) who are active in this field, which can be beneficial for staff and students in this consortium.
