Domingos Alves Rade

As a Co-PI, Professor Rade is co-responsible for the workpackage on smart periodic structures and leads the research team from ITA.

His scientific activities within this workpackage are devoted to the modeling and experimental characterization of periodic structures incorporating piezoelectric and shape memory materials, aiming at exploring the multiphysical coupling of those materials to improve the dynamic behavior of periodic structures in terms of vibration attenuation.

Other topics to be developed by the research team from ITA, which have interfaces with other workpackages that compose the project, are: a) stochastic modeling of periodic structures, which accounts for the inevitable imperfections induced by the limitations of manufacturing process; b) exploration of the capabilities of periodic structures to enhance structural health monitoring and energy harvesting from vibrations.

The research work encompasses analytical and numerical modeling, numerical simulations, and design and performance of laboratory experiments.

The research group includes:

  • Luiz Fernando Ferreira Rodovalho
  • Matheus B. R. Fernandes
  • Julia M. C. Leal
  • Rubens Salsa
